I love shortcuts and automations, and thats what make me look for a better add-ins/tools to make my life easier and SMART.
I have been thinking of writing about Excel Addins for long time, but just didn't regroup myself with the blog, but finally here I am.
I am not an expert of Excel addin, but there a tons of these in the market. I tried some and out of those I have shortlisted few for my daily use.
In excel the common question I or anyone has about the duplicates, and managing them.
The Duplicate Master is the best solution I have found so far which is free. You can download here http://members.iinet.net.au/~brettdj/
There is another excel utility found at http://www.asap-utilities.com/ which I found quiet useful.

Directory File Listing Utility for Microsoft Excel
Recently, I was looking for a solution to have all the files/sub-folders in a particular windows directory to be available in excel.
I had searched many sites and the solutions provided and I think I found close to what I wanted. It is the "Directory File Listing Utility" available at http://www.finrepinc.com/prod02.htm by John Helmer.
You can download this utility at http://www.finrepinc.com/FRIDirUtil1v7.xls or in zipped format at http://www.finrepinc.com/FRIDirUtil1v7z.zip
Please let me know if you find any other similar tool.

How to Map a long path to a drive letter on Windows
If a long path is frequently accessed, assigning it to a spare drive letter can save time. This recipe describes assigning a drive letter to a local drive path from the command line.
The subst command allows the substitution of a drive letter for a local drive path. For example, to map the drive C:\Documents and Settings\Guest\My Documents to the drive G: use the following command in the windows command prompt ( Start > Run, type cmd and then run the command below ):
subst Q: "C:\Documents and Settings\Guest\My Documents"
Once run, Q: should appear in the My Computer listing as a drive. Referencing a file in Q:\ will actually reference the file in the full path substituted above. You can change the windows path to your most frequent location and you are good to go.
To review the existing drive substitutions, just run the command without any options:
subst

Need more from iPhone
- Other Browser Support like Firefox, Opera
- Copy - Paste functionality
- Voice reader
- Calendar Sync with Yahoo Calendar or Google Calendar
- Better Headphone, the current one hurts after sometime or it might be just me as I am not used to it.
- Need a way to distinguish between dialled calls and received calls, currently the "Recent Calls" list doesn't differentiate between dialed calls and received calls and is very confusing, also misleading
- Apple supported application installer like the Install/Uninstall in Windows, there is a third party installer, but an Apple supported application would be helpful
- Whenever you press a button on the touchscreen, the phone should give a very subtle vibration or shudder, to let you know you've registered a key press. Very low priority

2 Weeks after I bought my iPhone
Now it is 2 weeks that I have had my iPhone, wherein now I lose the facility of returning the phone to the Store, but anyways I LOVE this phone and do not intend to return it OBVIOUSLY.
Last 2 weeks I've played with my gadget a lot, I've researched alot about the iphone and the customizations, and as well have shared the iPhone functionality with many people across the globe.
I will be writing below the functionality which I enjoyed till date:
Maps:
On the first day itself I felt the advantage of having iPhone. I had planned an evening out for dinner, but when we were going there we faced heavy traffic and thats where we thought of other option. iPhone came to rescue on the Day I. We searched on the Maps for a local Thai restaurant and there we are in the restaurant in few minutes.
Music:
I have not used iPhone much for the music, but yes I did load some music on it and enjoyed the Album slides. Initially I started listening the music through the speaker, and hated the quality. Not happy at that time, but later when I used the headphone, I was thrilled and was dancing, which then made me realize that the speakers are not for the music, but for the speaker phone.
Softwares:
I know some of my friends who are anti-apple, they were debating about things which is not in the iPhone, one of them was the custom ringtone. I love having my own ringtone, but was not happy when I saw that iPhone does not have facility to use your own ringtone. But that unhappiness stayed just for 1 day till I found an hack at http://cre.ations.net/creation/ibrickr by which you can load your own ringtone and other applications
More about new functionalities coming soon.

Issues with iPhone
I had to reset my iPhone twice till date and Safari browser had crashed many a times, I would say atleast once 3 hr of browsing. I rate the browser as unstable, especially when I open multiple windows. I thinks Apple should allow other browser to be installed like Firefox and Opera. I feel Microsoft would not jump into creating a browser application for iPhone.
First time when I saw iPhone freezed, I was almost scared and nervous, I thought I broke something, but when I researched I found many people had faced this issue.

Hurrah..... My 1st day with iPhone

The first impression of iPhone has been fabulus. I just can't keep myself away from this device.
Lots of functionalities in this device. I am just wondering why didn't others(Nokia, Sony, Motorola) think about such ideas, now seems so basic. But thats what it makes to be APPLE.
So far the best functionality which amazed me is to see the phone with just 4 keys
(Home key on the iphone, Power Key on the top, Volume key and Mute key on the side) and the keyboard is quiet intuitive. The more I play on it, the worthier I feel the iphone is.
Thats all for now, More coming up
